Merilee Fallon and Matt Townsend are fondly referred to as M&M by her entire family. Since the tender age of seven they’ve known they were meant to be together and Merilee has been planning their wedding just as long. Health issues and other circumstances lead them to plan their wedding a little ahead of when they originally planned. Just days to go before exchanging vows Merilee realizes that while she loves Matt, she longs for a grand passion and that’s sadly missing in their comfortable relationship.
Thanks to M&M’s wedding all Merilee’s siblings have returned home but along the way they each found a ‘grand passion.’ Merilee sees what she desires in those relationships and realizes that she can’t go through with a wedding when such an essential element is missing in her relationship with Matt. To everyone’s surprise Merilee calls off the wedding and since the Mexican Riviera cruise tickets are non-refundable she even opts to go on the cruise alone. However, she forgets to inform Matt that she’s using her ticket – and it seems he has the exact same idea.
While neither of them is happy to discover the other is on the cruise they soon learn that they’ve spent way too much time living in each other’s back pocket. They haven’t allowed themselves to develop their own interests, dreams or goals but maybe while embarking on this adventure together they’ll be able to build a new future. Whether they do so together or apart is anyone’s guess but they’re going to have a great time enjoying everything the cruise has to offer in the meantime.
This one line from the book sums up the romance between Merilee and Matt perfectly during their shipboard romance “Pink-tinted romance, fiery opal love, and leopard-thonged sex.” I’ve loved every book in the WILD RIDE TO LOVE series but YOURS, UNEXPECTEDLY really ties them all together beautifully and packs quite an emotional wallop. I have to admit I was heartbroken when Merilee called off the wedding but could understand her reasoning even though I really wanted them to have their happily-ever-after. This is one of those romances that allows you to experience all the emotions the characters experience while embarking on such as tumultuous adventure.
While the relationship between Merilee and Matt is the main focal point of the story I couldn’t help but be impressed by how Susan Fox deals with the Fallon sisters long ignored emotional angst about where they each fit in in the family dynamics. Make sure you have a box of tissues handy because you’re going to need it.
If you haven’t read all the titles in the WILD RIDE TO LOVE series then you’ll want to be sure to pick up copies of the first three books as well as YOURS, UNEXPECTEDLY.
