Jess O’Brien carries a lot of baggage.  The youngest of five children, Jess was hit hardest when her parents divorced.  Her mother left the family and her father traveled for work so often, it felt like he abandoned them, too.  Her brothers and sisters left Chesapeake Shores one by one as they grew up.  To make matters worse, Jess has struggled all her life with ADD.  Although Jess is now the successful proprietor of The Inn At Eagle Point, she’s ready for more.

Psychologist Will Lincoln has just started a new side business.  Lunch by the Bay is a dating service, but people are encouraged to meet for casual lunches, to keep first dates from being so intimidating.  Special software helps Will match couples with similar interests.  He might even give his own dating service a try, just to see what kind of matches he might find.  He’s been interested in Jess O’Brien for years, but maybe it’s time to admit he needs to find someone more attainable.

Jess considers Will a good friend, but balks at the idea of dating a psychologist.  She wants a man, not an analyst.  Will has known her too well for too long, and it seems he can always see right through her.  Jess doesn’t like feeling like an open book.  Besides, Will knows about her ADD.  Jess doesn’t like her disability being used as an excuse for anything, and she’s not convinced Will won’t do just that.  But are these the real reasons Jess doesn’t want to date Will, or just excuses?

Jess is an impressive woman, not only for all she has overcome to earn success, but also because she refuses to let anyone, especially herself, use her ADD as an excuse for failure.  She may have to work twice as hard as everyone else, but that doesn’t faze her.  I hoped Jess would draw on that same strength and courage when it came to her heart.  Jess has felt abandoned nearly all of her life.  Although her siblings all returned to Chesapeake Shores and her parents remarried, the lonely child who feels unworthy of love still lives inside her.  I wished she could break free and realize she is a wonderful woman who deserves love and happiness.  I was worried Will would give up on her before she figured this out!  Jess didn’t make things easy for him at all, but I hoped he would break through Jess’s defenses.  I also hoped the infamous O’Brien family meddling would come through for Jess without pushing too hard.  MOONLIGHT COVE is a heartwarming story of love, perseverance, and the beauty of a large, if interfering, family.  I loved every page!
