Sam Jennings is worried about his mother. He is on his way to visit her for Thanksgiving and decides to call all of his brothers and make sure they are coming. He is becoming increasingly worried that something is not right with things back home. Before Sam can confront his mother, in walks a distraction in the form of Julie Rose. Julie is a friend of his mother and works at their family business, Blackwater Diner. Although theirs is an instant attraction, Sam's main focus is on his mother. That is what causes him to get off on the wrong foot with Julie.

Sam's family and Julie are all eating dinner when Sam notices his mother looks unwell. Everyone is shocked when she announces that she is having a heart attack. Julie quickly assesses the situation and proceeds to take care of the situation. When all is settled and his mother is in the hospital, Sam realizes what a jerk he was being to Julie. He asks her on a date to apologize for his rude behavior. It is very clear from their first date that sparks will soon fly, and one of them just may lose their heart to the other.

Anne Rainey is a newer-to-me author. SAM'S PROMISE is only the second novel by Ms. Rainey that I have had the pleasure to read and it rocked my world. The other novel that I read by her is an anthology titled SEDUCE ME, which is also outstanding. SAM'S PROMISE is the first book in her wickedly sexy new BLACKWATER series. It is about the eldest Jennings brother, Sam, finding love where it is most unexpected. SAM'S PROMISE is centered on family and its bonds; something that hits close to home. It really warmed my heart.
