David handles the sales and marketing for the department store. Occasionally he goes scouting with his father to find potential locations for future stores. Quiet and business-minded, David has never shown any romantic interest in Nicole, until he gives her a peck on the cheek under the mistletoe.
For the most part Nicole genuinely likes her job but Laverne Marco is tenacious in all her demands and expectations and that’s the main reason why Nicole is stuck in a too small elf costume performing various duties at the store Christmas party. The one upside to playing an elf is that David is playing Santa so she gets to spend more time near him without being obvious. As if playing Laverne Marco’s ‘beck and call’ girl isn’t bad enough, the big announcement about David leaving to open a new store curbs any holiday spirit she may have had. Of course, the final straw comes when she’s leaving the party and her car won’t start. Luckily, David comes to the rescue . . . in more ways then one.
Yvette Hines's SANTA’S HELPER is a quick read full of fun characters, witty humor, and lots of occurrences of Murphy’s Law. Nicole comes across as a nice person who’s just allowing herself to be pushed around by her employers and I felt bad for her, but by the end of the story I wanted to high-five her and yell "you go, girl." David is a genuinely nice guy who’s put his career ahead of his personal life but now that he’s finally getting his own store he’s ready for a personal life and he wants Nicole.
