Eliza Blue Bowman, a detective for the San Francisco police department Major Crimes unit, usually doesn't not solve a case. However, this new case she is involved in has stumped her. A paralegal from an important law firm has disappeared and there are no clues to her disappearance other than a diary that incriminates one of the lawyers in the firm where she works.  Upon finding the missing paralegal's diary, Eliza decides to make herself the bait in a tricky sting operation possibly dealing in female slave trafficking.

James Li, one of the most notorious men in the city's underworld of prostitution, sees Liza in full 'prostitute' dress reading The Story of O and can't help himself.  He basically leads her from the cafe, ties her up, blindfolds her, and carries her away...he is unsure what he is going to do with her and all he knows is that she is his and he is never going to let her go.

I usually am uncertain about reading books that have main characters with questionable careers.  However, PHONEIX AND DRAGON proved to me that even fallen angels can be redeemed and fall in love.  I thought this book well written, and the suspense and BDSM aspects very tasteful and superb.  Both characters have to learn to trust the other to solve Liza's case as well as commit to their romance.  Suz DeMello is now on my radar and I look forward to reading more of her books.
