Ashton Louis Wallace the third has been hired by a conglomerate to go to Bayberry Island undercover to try and sway the owners into selling their land. He disables his sailboat on purpose so he can look like an unfortunate person coming to the island during the Mermaid Festival with nowhere to stay.
Rowan's mother, Mona, is the chairman of the Bayberry Island Memorial Society and is the one person who is against selling her property to the developers, so therefore stalling the whole deal.
The minute Rowan and Ash see each other, the sparks fly. Ash wants to get in Rowans good graces so she will help him persuade her family to sell, but ends up in her bed too soon.
This is the time of the Mermaid Festival and all kinds of things are happening. Ash becomes the "man grab" and has to kiss the mermaid statue's hand and say the pledge of love. Rowan's ex had been the "man grab" the year everyone forced her to pledge her love to him and that didn't turn out well. Rowan is dead set against the mermaid myth and just wants her Mom to sell so she can get back to her life in New York. What will happen to Ash and Rowan and will the developers get the land to make into a high-priced resort and ruin the small island for good?
There are a lot of twists and turns in this story that will make you laugh and sigh for the good people of Bayberry Island. Susan Donovan has started a series that I want to keep reading as they come out.
