Widower Logan Scott was devastated when his wife died. He claims that he’ll never love again, but his young daughter needs a stable home life and he’s determined to provide that for her - even if it means remarrying. Love doesn’t even have to factor into the equation, all he needs is a motherly type woman who will provide a good home environment.

Amber Johnson is a single mother and runs a daycare center out of her home. She’s taken care of Logan’s daughter, Loralee, since she was only six-weeks-old and developed a motherly fondness for the child. Amber’s developed an attraction to Logan and since he hasn’t shown any interest in her, she’s decided to do whatever she has to in order to get his attention.

Logan has to make monthly business trips out of town. During these trips he leaves Loralee with Rachel, Loralee’s grandmother and Logan’s mother-in-law. Rachel has been harping on Logan over the fact that his business trips and being at day care all day five days a week is not the way to provide a steady home life for Loralee. Rachel would like for Logan and Loralee to move in with her. Logan is aware of how controlling and manipulative Rachel can be and won't allow her to take over his life, but maybe she has a point about Loralee needing to grow up in a ‘normal’ household. To make it as normal as possible he’d need a woman who is already a good mother. The only woman he can think of who would be the perfect wife, mother, and lover is Loralee’s daycare provider, Amber. Instinct tells him that she won’t marry without love so he sets out to convince her to marry him and falls in love with her instead. What will happen when Amber learns the truth behind his sudden interest in her?

SECOND CHANCE is a heartwarming tale of two individuals who both tragically lost their spouses and went on with their lives the best way they could. Amber and Logan have an awesome sexual chemistry as well as an easygoing friendship that makes the romance between them thrilling to read. It would be very easy to hate the grandmother. She’s an interfering, manipulative woman, however there’s a great deal of sadness there as well over the loss of her daughter and I found it easy to understand her fear of losing Loralee if Amber and Logan marry. Jayelle Drewry writes excellent stories full of emotions that readers will not be able to put down.
