NO TIME TO DREAM introduced us to Jennifer, who is raising her daughter alone after her boyfriend Victor mysteriously disappeared in a plane crash. After two years, she's finally come to the realization that Victor is dead and not coming back. Although she’s been having some strange dreams of her love, she’s determined to go on with her life. In doing so, she gets comfort from Jack, Victor’s best friend, who becomes not only her lifeline but also her friend, lover, and eventual fiancee.
SECOND TIME opens up with Jen and Jack’s wedding, where Victor, who had suffered amnesia before returning home, is trying to hide his anguish at his former love’s alliance with Jack. It’s obvious that the two are deeply in love, and although he knows deep down inside that it’s for the best, he can’t bring himself to be happy for them. He’d lost part of his life after that plane crash, and it’s obvious that he’s not going to get it back. His love, his best friend, and his daughter are seemingly lost to him, as much as those forgotten snippets of time.
Cee Cee, Jen’s sister, has always been in love with Victor. Although only a teenager when her sister had gotten together with Victor, she’s always harbored secret fantasies about the man who was out of her league. Only now, he’s not so untouchable. Jen, after all, has married Jack. Victor is in unimaginable pain, and he needs someone to get him through it. Cee Cee feels that she’s just the woman to do it.
SECOND TIME is as great, if not better, than the first book in the Time series. Family emotions are just as rampant, the sex scenes are just as sizzling, and the storyline is very well written. Families are complicated things, and Ms. Harte has done an excellent job of showcasing one that works hard to overcome the obstacles put in its path.
Kudos to Ms. Harte, and I have to say that I’m looking forward to her next book, hopefully a follow up to the Time series.
Life, with its ups, downs, and sideways, is a messy business. SECOND TIME, however, has made it an enjoyable experience.
