Cathy Fitzgerald’s marriage is crumbling. There’s no doubt that she loves her husband. The passion that once sustained them isn’t enough to keep them together once the harsher realities of life intrude.

Rafe Walker loves his wife but he’s quickly learning that she needs more than to be placed on a pedestal and cared for like any of his other possessions. One of her needs is simply to be a part of his life and she’s never felt like she belongs on the ranch.

Rafe and Cathy met at a Dallas rodeo and spent an amazing weekend together - one which neither of them was able to forget when they returned to their normal separate lives. After a few months separation Rafe ventures to Boston where he finds Cathy and asks her to marry him - she says ‘yes.’ Cathy comes from a wealthy Eastern family who practiced law and dabbled in politics. Generations of Walkers have farmed and raised cattle on the ranch which Rafe now owns and works zealously.

Four years after they get married, their relationship comes to a stalemate. Cathy can’t handle feeling like an outsider any longer and Rafe’s resentment of her working is causing major discord for them. Rafe wants desperately to find a way to make her stay but he worries that he’s not refined enough. What Rafe doesn’t realize is that Cathy simply wants him to love her and make her a part of his world by including her in the farm business. Is there any hope for a couple on the verge of divorce to reconcile and make their life together one worth living? It may just take an unforseen push from Mother Nature to make them realize what’s truly important.

Dee S. Knight’s SECOND WIND gives readers an inside look at a marriage on the verge of self destructing. Cathy and Rafe’s feelings for each other are obvious throughout the storyline and as a reader I was able to feel their heartache over their separation. I could also understand the reasoning why Cathy felt she had no choice but to leave. They’re both smart, headstrong people who you can’t help but enjoy reading about and I have to confess I love the whirlwind ending. This story is a wonderful addition to the Midsummer Night's Steam line and will leave readers feeling good about the story they just read.
