More than a year after the unexpected death of her husband, Vivian Ashton is struggling to come to grips with his death and raising their three children alone. Fortunately she hasn’t had to face the daunting tasks of everyday life alone, Trevor has been by her side whenever she’s needed him and she’s gradually fallen in love with him. Even the children love him, only there’s a slight problem - he’s their Uncle Trevor.

Trevor Ashton has never been married. He’s a bit of a playboy with a different woman each month. With his business taking off he doesn’t have the time or desire for a wife and kids. Since his brother’s death, Trevor has been spending a lot of time filling in the void for both the children and Vivian. What he didn’t expect is the attraction he now feels for his brother’s widow.

Since Dean’s death Vivian has tried to bury her own grief and remain strong for her children, but it doesn’t always work. Dean’s insurance policy had paid out enough to pay off their home and set aside a small amount for emergency purposes, but Vivian works at a job she hates to pay for the regular bills. The only bright spots in her life are her children and Trevor. Vivian is aware she counts on Trevor entirely too much, but he’s become so very important to her. Each of her children have vastly different needs. Timmy is the youngest at ten-years-old and needs Trevor the most to fill part of the loneliness. Joshua and Amber are both teenagers and as such come with the normal teenage problems, compounded by the loss of their dad. Vivian’s family seems to be crumbling around her and Trevor appears to be the glue that keeps them from falling apart, but how are the kids going to react to the possibility of a romance between their mom and Uncle Trevor?

Lisa Dawn MacDonald’s SECRET SURRENDER is a poignantly sweet tale which I’m sure readers will love. The characters are true to life and charming. Trevor and Vivien supported each other after Dean’s death and their friendship evolves into a love interest, but with teenage kids thrown into the mix anything can happen. I love how Trevor and Vivien are able to tease each other, even before they become romantically involved. Their friendship, respect and love carry them through each challenge that’s thrown into their path. The kids you can’t help but adore, they’re all great kids, despite some bumpy times for all of them. If you’re in the mood for an endearingly sweet story full of life, love, and second chances this book is for you.
