Seth “Red” Rozhkov agreed to settle into the role as Meg’s husband for a year but he’s hopeful that he can win her heart in the end. Seth’s never lacked for female company but the ‘happily ever after’ has been a dream he thought might prove to be elusive. With his marriage to Meg, Seth has become a husband and a step-father, both roles he relishes – but his position is tenuous at best and he knows that Meg considers their marriage to be temporary.
Almost immediately Meg regrets marrying Seth… not because she doesn’t like him, but she just knows that marrying a man to save face isn’t a good idea. However, they are married so why not indulge in their mutual sexual attraction to each other? The problem is that sex without emotional attachment proves to be impossible and watching Seth’s fatherly devotion to her son, Toby, is simply impossible to resist.
SEEING RED proved to be an intriguing read with interesting characters and unusual circumstances. There’s a happily-ever-after but not before the protagonists suffer through their own private turmoil (much of it self-induced). I can almost understand Meg’s reluctance to believe that Seth is truly as wonderful a man as he is because of her previous marriage. However, you’d think that their mutual friends vouching for him would have made her a little more willing to trust him – just a little. All in all, this is a fun read that had me smiling and then at times a little heartbroken, but I genuinely enjoyed Meg and Seth’s evolving romance and all the insight provided that helped explain their actions.
SEEING RED by Holly Trent is the third book in her HEARTS AND MINDS series. This story can easily be read as a stand-alone story but I admit, I’m curious enough about the others to need to go back and read the first two books as well.
