SHATTER is reminiscent to me of the Beautiful series by Jamie McGuire. There are a lot of young adults, some in college or other schools, some already working, plus families and lots of friends along with lots of steaminess to the story.

McCarthy's SHATTER, BOOK 4 in the TRUE BELIEVER SERIES, pulled at my heartstrings and kept me immersed in the story. I couldn't help but root for Kylie and Johnathon's relationship to survive the test of time and hard blows they are dealt especially the way Johnathon's actions showed what a caring man he was. The ups and downs to their relationship with each of them treading so carefully sometimes made me want to scream at them to go ahead and take a chance that their love would definitely be worth it especially with the immediate chemistry they had. There were interesting family dynamics both in Kylie's family and Riley and Tyler's. Johnathon's was very dysfunctional. His mom was nice and loving but forget his father who not only didn't want to be a part of his life until he was a teen, he was nothing but critical and a dirty old man to boot! There was laughter, tears, pain, romance, lots of loving, heartache, happiness, doubt, insecurities and ultimately several happily ever afters and nice closure. Fast forwarding a year ahead was a nice touch and heartwarming to see where the couples were at in their lives. Not having read the first three books in the series I felt the story flowed nicely since enough information and details were given about Kylie's friends from the other books.

McCarthy is an author I've previously read but not for a long while. She's back on my TBR pile and I have to go back and read the first three books in this series, TRUE, SWEET and BELIEVE. I also want to look on her website at her booklist to see what else I've missed along the way.
