Chloe is going to school to become a social worker.   However, her heart is really not into this work, nor is she very good at it.   She is only going to school so she can receive her inheritance, which stipulates that she get a degree.   She selected social work because it was the easiest degree to obtain.   Presently on winter break from classes, she is doing an internship at the Boston Organization Against Sexual and Other Harassment in the Workplace, which she just calls the Organization.   However, she would rather be spending the time hanging out with her boyfriend.

Josh, Chloe's boyfriend, is the executive chef for the new restaurant, Simmer, which is about to open in the high scale end of the city.  Though he loves Chloe, he is very dedicated to his career and spends most of his time in preparation for the grand opening of Simmer, leaving little time for Chloe.

Josh and Chloe are working at a fundraiser, Food for Thought.   While Josh is preparing the food, Chloe and her boss, Naomi are promoting awareness of harassment in the workplace.   This is a great way for Josh to showcase his talent and let people sample the food he will be preparing in his new restaurant.   Unfortunately, everything is not going as planned.   It is bad enough that both Josh's ex-girlfriend and Chloe's ex-boyfriend suddenly showed up.   But who would have expected that someone would die at the fundraiser, and that the murderer would use one of Josh's cooking utensils, the Robocoupe, as the weapon?

I enjoyed reading SIMMER DOWN.   It is the second in the Gourmet Girl Mystery series.   Containing humor, romance and suspense, this novel will keep you reading.   I recommend SIMMER DOWN to those who enjoy cozy mysteries.   If you enjoy this story, you will not want to miss STEAMED, the first book in this series.
