Maddie Moore is on a streak of bad luck that is not getting better anytime soon. On her drive to Lucky Harbor, Washington, she almost hits a motorcyclist. It seems she cannot leave her bad luck behind in Los Angeles. But, one thing is for sure, she is happily leaving behind her ex-boyfriend who was abusive. Maddie is determined to be strong again, to not be ashamed, and to try for a fresh start. She hopes that the inn her recently deceased mother left to Maddie and her two sisters, Tara and Chloe, will be the safe haven she needs to find her feet again.
Unfortunately, the inn is a mess. Old, falling apart and in need of more money than Maddie has at her disposal, the only solution seems to be to sell it. But Maddie does not want to give up. It seems fate has something in store for her in Lucky Harbor and when she runs into her mysterious motorcyclist again, with the dark eyes and wide grin, Maddie aches to give her future a shot.
Jax Cullen is instantly attracted to Maddie. Their kisses are scorching and they instantly connect. But Maddie is holding back for personal reasons. Will Jax be able to get past her barriers and discover more about this fascinating woman? Will Maddie be able to let go of her past and move forward with Jax?
SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE is one of those books that totally and absolutely encapsulates its title. This book really was utterly irresistible. The romance instantly jumps off the page, not because Jax and Maddie are instantly “meant to be” but because they find endless humor in the situations Maddie puts them in. They start off seemingly like friends, but with the added bonus of plenty of heat between them. Their relationship is truly one of those special and refreshing duos so rare in romances: friends and lovers, equally. They are tender with each other while at the same time slowly exposing more of themselves.
I also really enjoyed watching the sisters, who knew next to nothing about each other, learn about their different quirks. They are all very distinct but they slowly become the support system Maddie has needed.
Jill Shalvis seems to have a golden touch with her books. Each one is better than the previous story. Excellent contemporary romances like SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE make this genre so wonderful to explore. I already cannot wait to revisit Lucky Harbor and its residents.
