Amanda Sheridan's life has changed drastically in a matter of weeks.  She has been 'traded in' by her husband for a newer model and has to start over.  When her husband loses his job after some unethical business practices, Amanda's hopes for a decent settlement goes down the tubes.   She commiserates with her two new friends:  Brooke, the trophy wife, and Candace, a thrice-divorcee who is dating the little league baseball coach.  With very few skills, Amanda decides to work for Candace as one of her cleaning maids to help cover her expenses.  Donning a disguise and calling herself Solange, Amanda finds herself cleaning her 'friends' houses and learning a lot.  Things that they would not like the public to know.  What happens when a new love begins to wonder if Amanda and Solange are one and the same?

SINGLE IN SUBURBIA is a wonderful book about how one woman's determination to stand on her own changes the lives around her.  Amanda could have rolled up in a ball and cried after finding out about her finances, but she didn't.  She figured out that being a maid would help pay the bills and keep a roof over her head.  Even though she was secretive about what she did for a living, she continued to take on more to make ends meet.  I liked how Ms. Wax didn't sugar coat Amanda's situation.  The fun was the disguises and the wonderful friendship Amanda found with Brooke and Candace.  Each woman had to face their demons and learn that life isn't what they expected.  If they stayed true to themselves, then happiness wouldn't be so far behind.  The secondary characters were rich and vibrant with Ms. Wax creating a whole mini world about players in a Little League team and their families.  SINGLE IN SUBURBIA is funny, inspirational and shows how great friends will stick with you through thick and thin.
