Zoë and her boyfriend, Jim, attend a gala thrown by Zoë's mega-rich friend, Amelia, where only the cream of society is invited. Jim has disappeared to play in a card game, and Zoë is left wondering if and when, he'll finish. She's standing outside by the pool smoking a cigarette, and trying to decide whether or not she's sober enough to drive. She has decided to leave Jim to his own devices and go home.
A voice interrupts her thoughts, telling her that she has a nauseating habit. When Zoë turns to the voice, she's met by the most gorgeous man she's ever encountered. She doesn't see that it's any of his business that she smokes.
In a matter of minutes Zoë discovers that her boyfriend used her as his bet, sure that he had the winning hand. He didn't, and David has won her. She can't believe what is happening to her. Jim is apologizing, and asking her to just spend the one night with David, and promising never to do it again.
Zoë follows David to his home. They begin a long night of him teaching, and her learning that she is a submissive at heart. She also learns that her heart belongs to David. Whatever he does to her is with love, and her loves flows back to him.
In this quickie, Claire Thompson has once again shown that the world of D/s, as perceived by the general public isn't what it seems. It is a life filled with love, trust, and a sense of belonging. I loved this story even though it ended too quickly. I highly recommend it to those who want a good love story with a few twists and turns.
