Ben Campbell has also moved back to neighboring Snowflake Bay to run his family's Christmas tree farm, after his parents moved to South Carolina for his father's health. Ben left town after high school to open a landscaping business in Portsmouth but has come home to run the farm for the season. Ben has a satellite tree lot in Blueberry Cove for those people who don't want to go to the farm and cut their own. Ben is a good friend of Logan McCrae, Fi's brother and the town sheriff, so all of the McCraes know him well.
Fi has had a secret crush on Ben since she was the bratty little sister of Logan, and Ben was trying to catch Hannah's attention, who is Fi's older sister. Fi had dreams about being Ben's girlfriend and had never really gotten over his treating her like a kid and calling her fireplug, a nickname Fi hates to this day.
When Ben and Fi run into each other at Logan's house the day Fi gets back to town, she is surprised to see him and can't believe the old thoughts that start running through her mind. Especially since she is in an embarrassing situation of having her scarf and hair all tangled up together. When Ben calls her fireplug she decides that he can't see how grown-up she is and tries to get him out of her head.
Ben has a lot to do with the farm and tree lots, as well as checking in with his business in Portsmouth. Fi is trying to get Hannah's wedding plans done and moving into her new residence and business. Even though Ben finally sees the woman Fi has become and wants to get to know her better, there is not enough hours in the day. When Fi's Uncle Fergis is taken to the hospital after suffering a stroke, she is stretched even further while helping to run his pub.
All-in-all this is a fun-loving, heart-stopping tale of two young people who want to get to know each other better as adults and leave the childhood hurts behind them. Fi knows Ben will probably sell the farm after the season is over and move back to Portsmouth, and Fi has just moved back where she wants to stay. Will Ben and Fi be able to find a happy medium between their complicated lives to find a place together?
I totally enjoyed this latest book by Donna Kauffman in her Brides of Blueberry Cove series. I love the family dynamics with big brother Logan watching over his three sisters, plus the whole town, as sheriff. These sisters have run Logan a merry chase over the years but love him dearly. I give this book 5 Blue Ribbons on Romance Junkies because I laughed and sniffled my way through it until the very end. This is a wonderful Christmas story for keeping to read again.
