Fanny is Claire’s mother; she’s starting to wonder what she’s missed out on all those years. Should life be like those romance books she loves to read? Does Joe really love her? He’s been with her all these years but never has he once been demonstrative with his love. When Joe’s Parkinson’s gets worse and they have to move into an assisted living nursing home Fanny gives up. She gives up on herself and on everything she’s ever dreamt of having.
Joe, Claire’s father, is harboring a secret. One he has never shared with anyone. It has been eating at him for years. He does the best he can, has made sure his family has had everything they’ve ever needed. Now that he has Parkinson’s, his life is changing drastically. He knows that Fanny cannot take care of him by herself. Agreeing to move into an assisted living nursing home seems to have been the wrong decision; Fanny is closing herself off from everyone. It’s almost like she’s shutting down, he doesn’t know what to do.
Amy, Claire’s daughter returns home when she has no other place to go. She’s pregnant, all alone and unsure if she wants to give the baby up for adoption or keep her. The decision she makes will change her life and her family’s lives forever. Can they get through this difficult time and still have each other to cling to?
For Claire to grasp her dream she must bring everyone with her to
Cape Cod. Each person awakens to realize everything they have ever wanted is right in front of their eyes; all they have to do is have the courage to reach for it. The changes they make, will they be for the better?
SO HAPPY TOGETHER by Maryann McFadden is another top notch book. One I shall hang onto and read time and time again. The obstacles each character must overcome to realize what they have been searching for has always been right there before them, is true to life. Not every path we take in life is perfectly smooth, we must learn along the way that things are not always as they seem.
