In SOMEONE LIKE YOU, Barbara Bretton introduces us to the Doyles.  They're a family like any other except for the fact that the parents were once famous.  Barbara Bretton lets us see the many different emotions that come from being part of a family.  Growing up daughters of the infamous Mark and Mimi Doyle, left Cat and Joely feeling unloved and unwanted.  It didn't seem like Cat and Joely fit into the world that Mark and Mimi lived in.  When Mark walks out the door and leaves not only his wife Mimi; but he also walks out on his daughters Cat and Joely.  Mimi just can't seem to cope without Mark, so not only is Cat trying to take care of herself and her sister Joely she has to help take care of their mother.

Joely is bitter towards her parents and leaves for Scotland as soon as she graduates college.  Cat on the other hand stays to take care of their mother and in the proccess begins her own successful business.  Both girls are finally becoming content enough with their lives that they are ready to move on with their lives.  Just when they think life is finally getting on an even keel something happens that brings the family back together again.

Mimi suffers a stroke and accidentally starts a fire.  While Mimi is in the hospital the girls struggle to get to know each other again and in the process learn some much needed life lessons.

In SOMEONE LIKE YOU, Barbara Bretton brings you along for an emotional roller coaster ride.  There is one thing I haven't mentioned.  Whatever happened to Mark?  You must read SOMEONE LIKE YOU, if you want to find out.

Barbara Bretton has always been one of my favorite authors; she always seems to bring the story out to where it seems like when you are reading that you actually know the characters.  In SOMEONE LIKE YOU it kept me wanting to keep reading to find out what all was going to happen next.  The Doyle family may be a little on the crazy side and weird; but that is what makes SOMEONE LIKE YOU such a great book to read.  What family doesn't have a member in their family that would fit right in with the Doyle's?  If you have someone like this in your family be sure to read this great book.
