Someone Like You

SOMEONE LIKE YOU has Niall and Kayleigh reconnecting as friends and both wanting more although neither wants to do anything to hurt their tenuous relationship once they realize there may be more.  They are almost never on the same page at the same time.  When one is trying to get closer, the other is pushing away and then the reverse happens.

Rock's SOMEONE LIKE YOU had a lot of emotion since there were repercussions from the war that affected not only Niall and his family but also Kayleigh and her family.  There were always undercurrents of feelings and neither knowing where they stood with each other both in their personal life and as partners in a start-up company based on The Must Traits list which evolved into the app they were creating.  Watching Niall come out of his shell and back to life was nice to see.  Her ex-boss and former fiancĂ© left me cold.  Gianna was a true friend to Kayleigh and jumped in with both feet when her friend needed her support.  Throw in Chris' wife and two sons who were struggling to go on without him and there was another layer of feelings.  Josh, his eldest son, had a lot of anger that he couldn't let go of.  Watching Niall's interactions with him and his support made a world of difference.  The seniors at the assisted living center where Kay's grandfather lived were a hoot and kept me in stitches.  There was family and friends, laughter, tears, heartache, sorrow, anger, secrets, happiness, reminisces, romance and love. There was a nice happily ever after that didn't seem like it would come to pass but an epilogue would have given me better closure and tied up some loose ends.

Rock is a fairly new to me author who writes young adult novels and also adult romances for Harlequin Heartwarming.  I have read WISH ME TOMORROW and HIS HOMETOWN GIRL and enjoyed them. This book takes place in New York City, where I am from, so I could easily relate to the neighborhoods and locations mentioned - always a nice feeling.  I look forward to reading her other books even the young adult novels and to read many more novels she writes for the Harlequin Heartwarming line.
