With a passion for both poetry and Peter Fox, Grace follows the clues to find out if there is an unknown sonnet by Shelley, even as she tracks the Turkish prison guard who has shown up to threaten Peter. When the Turk ends up dead and Grace is the one who finds his body, she becomes the prime suspect in his murder. Unsure if Peter is involved in his murder, Grace does what she does best, researches all facts, follows up on all the connections and puts the pieces of the puzzle together to find the sonnet. Clues lead her to an old scandal of desertion and unexpected links between the new librarian and past generations of the Lake District. When Grace is run off the road into a nearby lake, and a second attempt on her life is made shortly thereafter, she knows she is getting close to answers. However, are the answers to the missing sonnet, or the murder?

Diana Killian writes a great book for an afternoon of reading. SONNET OF THE SPHINX is a fun murder mystery with just a hint of passion thrown in. As Grace does her imitation of Miss Marple, Peter does the mysterious antique dealer bad boy to perfection. I enjoyed the fact that Grace wants Peter in her life yet she still deals with Peter's faults, eyes wide open and goes on with her life as she gives Peter the benefit of the doubt regarding the murder, showing a trust that comes from the heart. Grace's patience and persistence solve both her personal and professional dilemmas with wonderful and wacky twists and turns along the way. Those of you who love The Romantic Poets are in for a real treat as Ms. Killian references the poets and their lives throughout the story. I know I learned a thing or two I didn't know. This is the 3rd story in the Poetic Death Mysteries series. I'm sure those of you who enjoy poetry, mystery and a touch of romance will enjoy this book and series.
