Penelope Bonnard left Australia two and a half years ago vowing never to return but her brother’s accident and subsequent coma has changed everything.   She had her reasons for leaving and still believes she did the right thing but there’s no denying that her love for Steve has never faded.  He’s like a drug she can’t get out of her system.  Being back in Australia and so close to Steve again brings back all her suppressed longings and dreams for things she knows can never be, but can she resist the allure of Steve’s seduction

Steve Sommers tried to go on with his own life after Pen left him without any real explanation.  He got engaged and had his life all perfectly mapped out even though he knew the affection he holds for Kate is nothing compared to what he feels for Pen.  Now with a broken engagement, his best friend in a coma and Pen within touching distance his emotions are on edge but one thing’s for certain – his love for Pen is as strong now as it ever was and letting her walk away again is beyond comprehension.

Pen never dreamed that seeing Steve again would bring back so much longing for what she knows she can never have.  Steve no longer belongs to her, he’s engaged to Kate – or at least they were engaged the last time she’d heard.  She wanted him to move on, be happy and have children; she just never dreamed that it would hurt so bad that he’s done so.  What she doesn’t realize is that the engagement has been called off so her intense jealousy is unnecessary.  Of course, her situation hasn’t changed any and she still intends to return to England; the problem is Steve isn’t letting her go anywhere and he feels that he deserves to know why she left him – especially since it’s obvious she still cares deeply for him.  Steve’s stunned when he learns the reason for Pen’s leaving but as far as he’s concerned Pen belongs with him – in sickness and health and nothing can convince him otherwise.  Is there any hope that Pen would see the light and stay with the people who love her in Australia rather than return to her lonely life in England?

My heart broke for Steve in the first CIRCLE OF FRIENDS book so I really wanted to find out what happened when he and Pen come face to face once again.  STEVE’S STORY is an emotional ride from beginning to end.   There’s so much love between all the characters involved yet a horrible disease threatens to rip apart all their hopes and dreams.  The sexual tension between Steve and Pen is captivating and as a reader I wanted so much for them to have their happily-ever-after, but reality is that life is unpredictable and sometimes you just have to have the guts to accept that which you cannot change.  The CIRCLE OF FRIENDS stories have truly touched my heart and give me a newfound respect for life and those who choose to embrace everything life has to offer.
