When Katie Charmaine was only a teenager, she got pregnant. Wanting the best for her baby, she gave her daughter up for adoption. She has thought of that little girl every day of her life, hoping that her baby is safe and happy. Katie is in for a rude awakening when Zack Ferguson, the father of her child and her first real love, walks in the door of her small salon. Zack has news for her. Their teenage daughter, Gracie, has found him and needs their help. Gracie is not only reeling from the death of her adoptive parents, but she is pregnant.

Katie is in shock. Not only is Zack back in her life, but so is the daughter she never thought she would see again. Katie is also experiencing a major attraction for Zack once more, which scares her. When her husband was killed in Iraq, Katie never thought she could fall in love again. Zack is proving that wrong on all levels. However, both Katie and Zack want to stay focused on helping Gracie prepare for her baby. Their attraction simmers but is trying to be ignored by both parties. Will they find out that, like Gracie’s baby, ignorance is far from bliss?

STILL THE ONE is a heartwarming love story from start to finish. Despite the myriad complications the characters were facing, I felt like their roads to a better future were very smoothly written and orchestrated. Gracie did not bond with her birth parents right away by any means which lent this book a voice of authenticity. At the same time, Katie could not let herself fall for Zack right away either. Her feelings for her husband were still overwhelming and complex. I really enjoyed the layered character building that Robin Wells used throughout the story. No one in this novel is what he or she first appears. I also immensely enjoyed the secondary love story featuring an older couple, Katie’s in-laws in fact. Their road to forgiveness was a nice complement to Zack and Katie’s story.

STILL THE ONE is a sweet story you will read in one sitting. It is comfortable, complex enough to keep you interested, but also devastating in some of the truths it explores. Robin Wells definitely knows how to leave an impression on your heart.
