When Kim Aldredge was eight, she and her mother had gone to Edilean Manor for a getaway while her father and brother were away on a month long fishing trip. While there, Kim had been bored out of her mind…until twelve-year-old Travis arrived with his mother. A serious boy, Travis was homeschooled and possessed no friends or any idea of how to have fun, but Kim was more than eager to show him. Soon the studious young boy was getting dirty and doing wheelies on his new bike. The two became inseparable, meeting the first thing each day, but one morning he was not there. He and his mother had left in the middle of the night, needing to get home before his father discovered they were gone. Kim had been devastated; she had never forgotten him and looked for him wherever she went. Now eighteen years later, she has her own successful jewelry business, where she designs and makes all of the jewelry herself. She has been either a bridesmaid or a maid of honor at each of her friends’ weddings, but finding love has eluded her.

Travis Maxwell has never forgotten Kim and has secretly kept tabs on her over the years. His mother has returned to Edilean, the town where he spent the happiest two weeks of his life as a child, and is in hiding from her powerful, rich husband. Over the years, Travis has graduated from law school and even spent time as a stunt man in Hollywood, enjoying the physical activities. A bit of a daredevil, he has participated in racing cars, skydiving and many other death defying events. He still credits Kim for showing him how to have fun. His father had tried to get him to work for him, but Travis had refused…until finally, he had agreed on the stipulation that his father not try to find Travis’ mother. However, Travis has just received word that his mother is going to divorce his father so she can get married again. Wanting to make sure that his new stepfather-to-be was not after her money, he took leave from work to spend the next three weeks in Edilean.

Meeting up with Kim again, Travis finds that his feelings for her have not changed. He wants to have a future with her, but then he discovers that she already has a boyfriend, an unscrupulous man who wants to take over her company and is about to pop the question to gain it. Can he stop the proposal and win her for himself, or is he about to lose the only woman he has ever loved? Hidden inside this grown man will Kim find the boy she fell in love with?

STRANGER IN THE MOONLIGHT is the second book in author Jude Deveraux’s EDILEAN trilogy, which depicts another story of three best friends from college, who reunite in Edilean, Virginia where they each just may find their heart’s desire.  In this story, Kim attends the wedding of her best friend Jecca, who is the star of the first book of this trilogy, MOONLIGHT IN THE MORNING. The one person she never expects to see at the wedding is Travis, who she has searched for the past eighteen years. Even though they had been children, they had had a profound effect on each other. Now as they meet once more, she searches for the boy she once knew in the man he has become. Combining true-to-life characters, humor, family dynamics, secrets, small town life and love, Ms. Deveraux has penned a sweet romance that is sure to bring a smile to your face. There are also a couple other romances explored along the way during this story. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I advise also reading the first book in this series for further insight into the town and the people of Edilean as well as for additional enjoyment.
