Shortly after starting this book, I found out it is the fourth book in a series called THE CODA BOOKS. I’ve never read the series, but that didn’t have an effect on reading this book. The few times I was lost, the story shortly explained my confusion away. This book is all about Cole and Jonathan’s romance.

The two have a very rocky start, as their first date goes horribly. From there, their relationship slowly builds up from casual sex friends to boyfriends. It’s a very slow and rocky road for the two. The further their relationship seems to go, the more problems that seem to try and get in their way. That is what I loved most about the story. The relationship between Cole and Jonathan is so realistic, at points, it had me floating on a cloud or bursting into tears.

The character Cole is the strongest in the book, even though it’s told mostly through Jonathan’s eyes. Cole is a very unusual character, as he is the stereotypical flamboyant gay man. Most M/M romances tend to avoid such characters, and it was refreshing to see a flamboyant gay man written in a way that made him seem real and not just as a joke side character. The way Cole and Jonathan grow as people throughout the story was amazing and extremely well written.

STRAWBERRIES FOR DESSERT has to be one of the most realistic and well written M/M romance books out there. I recommend this to everyone who enjoys M/M romance. With this book, Marie Sexton has won her way not only onto my favorite authors list but to a place on my favorite books of all time list as well. I’m looking forward to reading more of her books.
