Dr. Joshua "Josh" Collins has come home to Jewell Cove after the death of his wife. Being around his family and working in the town clinic has helped him to forget about the things he has lost. He enjoys going out on his boat and leaving the world behind.
When Lizzie decides to help out at the clinic while Charlie is on maternity leave, she is surprised the widowed doctor is so young and hunky. Not being in a good place in her life Lizzie knows she shouldn't get into a relationship especially with her boss. She has made that mistake at her former job and doesn't want to duplicate it.
Josh is still feeling the loss of his wife even though the marriage was in trouble. His family is always trying to set him up on a date because they worry about him but he wishes they would stop. When he meets Lizzie the first day of working together, he feels things he hasn't felt in a long time. Trying to keep the workplace compatible takes some doing on both their parts.
Lizzie knows she is having feelings for Josh but doesn't want to cause problems in their working relations for the short time they will be working together. Being friends and going on trips in his boat may have a deciding effect on them both. Will Josh and Lizzie find the path to love with each other or will Lizzie go back to her fast-paced job after all.
SUMMER ON LOVERS' ISLAND by DONNA ALWARD is a great story of love lost, family matters, new lives starting and the power of friendship and forgiveness. I love returning to these small towns time and again to check in with how the familiar characters are doing and meeting the new people that end up there. I have never been one who wanted to live by the water, but it is hard not to love the beautiful scenery of this coastline as it is depicted. I give 5 BLUE RIBBONS on Romance Junkies' website because I believe this story of loss, family love and the power of friendship is one anyone will love to be a part of. The emotions this story brings out is amazing.
