Honora Stedworth or Nori to family and friends, didn't think life could get any better. She had a great apartment in Manhattan (even if it was a little small and slightly below ground level), she had a great job at an up and coming dot com business, she was in love with a doctor and her parents were hundreds of miles away. Nori was on top of the world, and she was in for a mighty big fall.
All it took was one day for everything in Nori's life to come tumbling down around her. She walked in on her boyfriend and her best friend in a uncompromising position, the dot com business where she worked was going bust and then her mom shows up on her doorstep ready to start a new life. As much as Nori loved her mother she did not want her for a permanent roommate.
Connie, Nori's mother, was tired of sharing her husband with the entire town of Ten Commandments. So Connie and her best friend Marjorie came up with a plan not only to get her husband to remember he had a wife at home but also to convince Nori that Marjorie's son Eugene was the perfect man for her.
All this was just too much for Nori to handle, so she did what she had always done as a child; she turned to Gertie. Gertie was Nori's best friend, the one person she could tell anything and everything to. Gertie may only live in Nori's imagination but lately she seems to be taking over Nori's life and putting her two cents in whether Nori wanted it or not.
Nori accidentally mixes her laptop up with hunky Mackenzie "Mac" Randolph's and when she finds him, so that they can switch them back, she discovers him reading her diary about Gertie. Nori was furious with Mac, but then he came up with a plan that could save them both from unemployment. Mac is the station manager at WBAT radio and he is going to lose his job if he can not get the ratings to go up. Mac's plan is to put Gertie on the air as a live talk show host to give the male listeners a female point of view. Look out New York because "The Tao Of Gertie" is about to hit the radio waves and the battle of the sexes is about to begin.
TALK GERTIE TO ME has got to be one of the most unique, enjoyable, and hilarious stories I have ever read. From the opening page I was completely hooked, laughing out loud at times. I think everyone will be able to relate to this story, as we all have a little bit of Gertie inside us. The secondary characters touched my heart and brought the story to life making TALK GERTIE TO ME a definite must read. This is Lois Winston's debut novel and I think she is going to be an author to watch out for in the future.
