Cole Wainwright grew up on the Double Diamond ranch, next door to the Paradise ranch. However, his family had undergone some financial problems so their home was sold to Samuel Crockett. Cole's main goal now is to buy back his family's legacy and Samuel was going to provide that opportunity, but now he is dead. Although Cole dated Amelia for many years, their relationship is not what it appeared to be. It is Harper who has always fascinated him, even though he knows it can never go anywhere since his life is at the ranch and hers is in Chicago. But, as they gather for Sam's funeral, Cole cannot resist stealing a kiss...or two as he comforts Harper.
Having witnessed the damage done to a nearby ranch by oil, Harper has always railed against anything that would keep the ranch from being anything but natural and her father always supported her in that. But now she discovers that he scheduled a meeting with one of the greedy oil companies just prior to his death. Although she initially chases off the oil company representatives, she knows she will have to convince her family that they can make a comeback without resorting to destroying the land. However, Cole has not told her what he has been doing when he is not working at the ranch for the past several years while she has been in Chicago working on her art. Will this secret be the final straw for any future they might have together? Will they be able to work out the whole sister code complication, as well as the long distance logistics?
An emotion-packed tale, THE BRIDE WORE DENIM, the first book in Lizbeth Selvig's SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN COWBOYS series, is a witty, sexy contemporary romance that kept me enthralled. From the very beginning, readers will be able to appreciate the chemistry between Cole and Harper and the flirtatious banter between them is delightful. Although I knew that he had at one time had a relationship with her sister, they do not seem to have anything in common, other than growing up as neighbors. Harper and Cole worked together beautifully, but, knowing that Cole was hiding a secret, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop while still rooting for them.
Death, family dynamics, responsibilities, contracts, ranching, passion, romance and love combine to give readers an unforgettable read. I hated to see this story end. However, I take comfort in knowing that the next episode, THE BRIDE WORE RED BOOTS, which is Amelia's story, is due to release in September 2015. Perhaps I should not have read the excerpt in the back of this book because it has only left me more anxious to get my hands on it. For me, this book served as an introduction to Ms. Selvig's work, but it definitely will not be my last. Pick up a copy of THE BRIDE WORE DENIM today and discover what you have been missing!
