Chloe was a law student until her gambling addict father stole her college fund as well as the money her mother left her. Now she works in a bar and sleeps on her friend's couch while she tries to find a way to get back into law school. Chloe was attracted to Ryder from the moment she spotted him at the rodeo. But just by looking at him she could tell that he has seldom heard the word no, so she decides to teach him a lesson, even as she longs to say yes. But when he later loses his ranch in front of her in a poker game, she begins to believe that he may be too much like her father. However, she is willing to help him, if he will help her. Growing up with her father, she learned a lot about gambling, tells, when to fold and men in general. She knows she can win Ryder's ranch back for him, if he will give her a place to stay in the meantime and then pay her college tuition once he gains back his ranch. In the long run, they will both win. The only drawback is she has to pretend to be his girlfriend, while keeping her hands to herself. She hopes to keep her heart intact.
However, things soon turn intimate and the one thing they were both trying to avoid happens when feelings come into play. Will Chloe be able to leave Ryder behind to return to law school? Will they win the ranch back before his brothers get wind of what he has done?
A fun tale, THE DEVIL WEARS SPURS, the first book in author Soraya Lane's TEXAS KINGS series, is a rip roaring, sexy contemporary romance that will keep you enthralled right up to the end. The chemistry between Ryder and Chloe is off-the-charts and I could not help rooting for them to succeed at getting the ranch back from his nemesis Parker. All three brothers were captivating and I thrilled at the loyalty and love that they had for each other.
Loaded with wonderful characters, sass, southern charm, rodeos, humor, sizzling sensuality, clever repartee, hopes, dreams and romance, as well as a trip to Vegas, this story is sure to steal many hearts. This book was hard to put it down once I started reading and I hated to see it end. However, I am looking forward to reading more of the King brothers' stories.
