While Rose goes wild sneaking out and indulging in boys and alcohol, Emily does her best to make up for her sister’s behavior by helping around the house and keeping her sister’s escapades a secret so their mom isn’t worried. Rose’s behavior doesn’t change as they grow older and eventually it results in an accident that will have the sisters at odds – much to their mother’s despair.
Josie’s done everything humanly possible to bring the sisters together again but they remain adamant that they’ll have nothing to do with each other. It’s their mother’s untimely passing that brings them together again – well, at least they tolerate each other long enough to get through the wake. What neither of them expects is for Josie’s will to dictate that in order to receive their inheritances they’d have to join forces in a treasure hunt to find first the clue as to where the key to her deposit box is hidden and then another to find the key itself – and they have a month to do find it. Oh, and to top it all off, they have to live in houses right next to each other. Things are about to get very interesting in Mill River because these sisters definitely harbor a grudge against each other and they aren’t above getting even for any perceived wrong the other might have done.
Darcie Chan treats her readers to another story set in Mill River with THE MILL RIVER REDEMPTION. With warring sisters, a well-meaning community, a loving little boy, an alcohol addiction and a treasure hunt that will affect every member of the community in one way or another. I fell in love with this community with the first book, THE MILL RIVER RECLUSE, and this book has only cemented this series as a ‘must read’ in my opinion. Ms. Chan does an amazing job showing the trouble between the sisters in a realistic fashion as well as the toll it takes on Rose’s son Alex. We also get the opportunity to revisit the other memorable citizens of Mill River including Claudia and Kyle who’ve officially become a couple but due to her insecurities still have issues to overcome. For a great story centered on feuding sisters set in an idyllic community full of characters you’ll adore I highly recommend picking up a copy of THE MILL RIVER REDEMPTION.
