Dawson's THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL (SOMETHING NEW, BOOK 2), kept me on my toes throughout. I met characters from the first book in the series which I haven't read yet and the story seemed to segueway easily into this book from what I read on the author's website. There was a lot of politics throughout - most of it dirty - along with family, friends, coworkers, childhood memories and reminisces, celebrations, hard work, happiness, smiles, laughter, tears, heartache, ruthlessness, sadness, loneliness and even despair. Watching Cecilia get a backbone was thrilling but watching her and Shane take two steps forward and two steps back in their relationship was often times heartbreaking. Seeing Cecilia slowly rebuild her relationships with her family - except Dad - and her childhood friends was endearing and put a smile on my face. The title of this book was very apropos but you'll have to read it to find out why. There was a happily ever after in the offing along with nice closure and I for one am so looking forward to catching up with siblings Cecilia and Mitch; Shane and Maddie and their two brothers, James and Evan, along with next door neighbors Gracie and Sam.
Dawson is a new to me author and I will definitely be reading her other books in the contemporary genre. I need to read book one in this series, TAKE A CHANCE ON ME, which is Maddie and Mitch's story, and then I will be waiting for THE NAME OF THE GAME which is the third book in the SOMETHING NEW SERIES that will be out next year. There was an excerpt from book three in the back of this book and it only whet my appetite for more!
