After saving a young girl from a cult, FBI Agent Laine Carrington is recuperating from the gunshot wound she received during the mission in the small town of Thunder Point. There, the locals accept the hero as one of their own and she feels safe here, so she believes that this is the perfect place to be while she recovers and considers whether she should continue with her current career choice. Her parents had been doctors and her father had wanted her to go into the same field, just like Laine’s brother, Paxton, did. She lost her mother, who had been her best friend and was very supportive of her career choice. But things have been so bitter between Laine and her father that they are no longer speaking even though Laine is still very close with her brother. Renting a house with a wonderful view, Laine has her car checked over by the local mechanic and is captivated when she meets him.

Eric Gentry, who is also new to Thunder Point, has some secrets of his own, besides the recent discovery that he has a daughter in the small town. Owning his own business, an auto shop, Eric is enjoying getting close to his teenage child and looks forward to spending the rest of his life in the close-knit community. His past and his problem with dyslexia, which he keeps a closely guarded secret, has kept him from following many career choices, but he has found a way to exist and is content with his shop. When he delivers Laine’s car to her, meeting her for the first time, his interest is sparked. But, with his past, he figures they do not stand a chance, especially when he learns that she is a law enforcement agent. So, it is finally Laine who asks him out.

Although the two could not have more different pasts, with Laine as a law enforcement agent and Eric, a reformed criminal, the two are attracted to each other. Eric is prepared for Laine to stop seeing him, but still decides to come clean with her about his past, if not his dyslexia. Do the two stand a chance of happy ever after together, or will Laine break it off when she discovers she is dating an ex-con? Will she return to her job as an FBI agent, or will she remain in Thunder Point and find a different line of work?

Alzheimer’s, SIDs, dyslexia, abandonment, foster care, healing, forgiveness, sensuality, romance and love are all explored in this delightfully entertaining, contemporary novel, THE CHANCE, which is the fourth in New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr’s THUNDERPOINT series. Containing humor as well as delving into more serious issues, this tale will make you think. The outgoing Laine and the more reticent Eric are wonderful together. Although Eric has not exactly been hero material in Ms. Carr’s previous books he more than makes up for it in THE CHANCE.  Eric is a humble, loving man and you can’t help taking him into your heart. The secondary characters also add a great deal of appeal. This novel is sure to leave readers longing for a small town like Thunderpoint of their own. Since reading Ms. Carr’s VIRGIN RIVER series, I have become a huge fan of her work. So when I saw this book, I could not wait to read it. It definitely does not disappoint, but don’t take my word for it...check it out for yourself. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.
