Corrie Edwards wants a baby, badly. So badly in fact that she decides, after much thought, to ask her boss, Sam Barclay, to be the sperm donor. It sounds like a perfect plan to Corrie. She will not have to deal with any romantic feelings or emotions with Sam. Sure, they shared a kiss two years ago, but nothing ever came of it. Corrie does not want a man in her life anyway; she just wants a baby.
Sam is flabbergasted when Corrie asks him to be her sperm donor. Sam has just come out of a very bad relationship, a relationship in which his ex-fiancée had an abortion. He is not ready for another child, but yet, a part of him is seriously considering Corrie's request. He has always admired her. She is a dedicated and hardworking veterinary assistant. Her kindness shines through whether with humans or animals, and there is no doubt she is pretty. But can Sam really make a baby with Corrie, without falling in love with her?
Here is a story where both main characters have baggage aplenty to keep the story hopping. Whether it is an ex-fiancée, Corrie's issues with her father, or the realities of sperm donation, Karen Rose Smith does not shy away from the practical in this story. There are still plenty of romantic elements to enjoy however, including Corrie and Sam's budding relationship and tentative love. It is not easy for either of them, as they have both been hurt by love in the past. Compromise and hope for the future keeps them grounded, even when it seems like something is ready to tear them apart. The importance of family, love, and the emotional strength of the two main characters keeps this love story on track.
