Gabe Tierney is one of “those Tierney brothers” that the small town of St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania has always told stories about. He is still living at home, taking care of his ailing father and his mentally challenged brother.
THE FAVOR is a story about Janelle coming back to St. Mary’s, after a twenty year absence, to take care of her ailing grandmother. Her father’s mother has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the age of eighty-three. Nan’s kids are all too busy with their own lives to take care of her. They offer Janelle the position of live-in caretaker with benefits. Janelle hasn’t seen her grandmother in twenty years so she decides to move home to take care of her through her final days. Janelle’s son Bennett is not happy with the move.
The Tierneys still live next door and Janelle keeps having flashbacks to when she lived with her grandmother during her senior year of high school. Janelle was rebelling against her life and Gabe was the bad boy in town who she decided to get close to. They have a tumultuous history that re-awakens itself as time passes. Janelle is having trouble watching her Nan’s health decline and dealing with family.
Will Janelle and Gabe become close friends again and try to put some of the secrets to rest? Will Janelle and her son finally settle in and feel at home? If you love a story that recreates a past that has been kept hidden, along with a present that is very poignant and soul searching, you should love this story.
