Melissa is on her way to meet her grandmother, Nelly, for her birthday. Every year, her grandmother picks what she wants to do, and Nelly takes time off work to celebrate with her. It has become a ritual for them, and Melissa is determined to never miss it. She is surprised at the location Nelly has picked since it is not where they usually go, but hey, she is up for something new. Suspicions really start to arise when Melissa walks into the hotel lobby and realizes it is an auction for the local firefighters and policemen to raise money.

Melissa rushes in to find Nelly sitting at a table, ready to start bidding. She suspects that Nelly is trying to help her with her love life, but she quickly dismisses the notion. When the auction starts, Melissa becomes horrified, and when her grandmother jumps up to bid, she flees as fast as her feet will carry her. That is how she runs into the dangerously sexy Captain Harry Brody.

Later, Nelly announces that the young man she won a date with at the auction is coming to take her out and surprise, surprise, she cannot attend because she is not feeling well. That leaves Melissa with the obligation to go out with him. Imagine her shock who is supposed to be picking her up had the same idea, and she ends up going out with Harry instead. As Melissa and Harry spend time together, they really begin to enjoy the other's company. This could just be a match made in heaven.

THE FIREMAN WHO LOVED ME was an absolute riot. I found myself laughing more often than not at Melissa's grandmother, Nelly. Nelly is a tough old bird who knows just what to do to get what she wants, even if it involves going to outrageous extremes. I really got a kick out of her antics. Melissa is sweet and biddable in the beginning, but we really get to see her character blossom after she meets Harry. I loved the easygoing relationship between the two of them. They are characters I feel I could really relate to. THE FIREMAN WHO LOVED ME is awesome.
