Sarah Stevens’s life has completely fallen apart.  Within hours she’s booted from the military because of her failure to maintain an idle weight, discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her – with another man, and has no clue what she’s going to do next.  Sarah opts to follow up on a suggestion from her Commander and calls the number on a card he gave her for a boot camp specializing in weight loss.  It’s a weight loss program like she’s never known before and turns out to be exactly what she needs to turn her life around.

Vince served for many years as a U.S. Marine before taking up a position as an agent for the CIA.  He takes his duty and the wellbeing of his fellow agents very seriously and is very disheartened by the recent death of one of his operatives.  There’s no doubt that they need another female to replace the one they lost but finding another ‘swallow’ for another Honey Pot mission is going to be a difficult task.

Sarah doesn’t know very many details about the ‘fat camp’ she’s attending besides that it’s free and could possibly help reestablish her self esteem – something she’d lost during her time in the military.  Everything about the camp is extremely secretive but she thrives on the exercises and the sense of purpose she feels at just making it through each day.  As long as she’s successfully losing weight and abiding by the camp’s rules she’ll be allowed to stay but she questions why this program is free – there has to be some sort of catch, right?

As the pounds drop off and Sarah’s self confidence grows she’s moved up the steps of the weight loss program and discovers that there’s far more to this program than she ever would have imagined.  Her whole attitude has changed and she discovers that she can play the femme fatale as well as any other woman.

With her military background, ability with weapons and incredible looks Sarah is exactly the sort of woman Vince’s team needs.  The only concern is if she can handle going as deeply undercover as what would be necessary in order to obtain the information necessary to help stop the financiers of terrorism.  Sarah proves herself to be more than adequate for the position.  In fact the biggest problem she has is hiding her overwhelming desire for Vince.

I have to say THE PATH TO FREEDOM is one genuinely impressive read.  I loved Sarah’s gung ho attitude and her determination to reinvent herself and there’s no doubt in my mind that she’s wholly successful in achieving that goal.  Vince has issues of his own – both personally and professionally – and Sarah’s ability to stand up to him is a huge turn on for him.  One of the things I especially enjoyed about this story was the closeness of the members of Task Force 125.  There’s a genuine caring and ‘openness’ that’s extended to Sarah and really says a lot about this group.  Lisa Pietsch infuses this story with humor, lots of action, friendship, romance and suspense so that you’re pulled into these characters lives and don’t want to let them go.  Fortunately Ms. Pietsch is working on more stories for both Sarah and her fellow ‘fat camp’ roomy’ Tracey Ballentine so I’ll be anxious to revisit them both and find out just where their adventures have taken them.
