Lord William Chessyre is one of the wealthiest and most pursued bachelors in his circle. He has been hurt already by a woman he gave his heart to and is not eager to search for a wife. After taking in Felicia, he is unexpectedly attracted to the genuine nature that she approaches life with. He decides to look into the authenticity of the claims; that Felicia’s father’s will left her without an inheritance.

Felicia follows Lady Emma to London where she enters into society and broadening her experiences. Lord William soon decides to join his aunt and Felicia and the two become acquainted quite well. The longer Felicia is in Lord William’s company the more her cheeks warm and the more she finds agreeable about him, despite her better judgment. Lord William likewise, finds that he is enamored with Felicia more with each passing day. 

The investigation of the will of Felicia’s father Lord William initiates provides to be worthwhile. It becomes apparent that fraud has been committed. Fowl play has occurred and most likely murder. If Felicia attempts to claim what is rightfully hers, it could very well cost Felicia her life.

In A CHANCE ENCOUNTER, Emily Johnson tells a wonderful story of the value of family and friendship and overcoming adversity. The premise was classically done and the story has a hero and heroine you'll take to your heart.  The genuine nature of Felicia and the unpretentious mannerisms of Lord William despite his social standing, make the two most memorable. Ms. Johnson does a grand job with the dialogue, stay true to the time period, and the suspense that she adds in with the authenticity of the will in question, makes for a delightful read. I encourage anyone who likes a sweet historical romance with a hint of mystery to read this novel.
