Famous magician Diego Montalvo is on a mission. He wants to honor his late father’s wishes and bring his ancestral home, Arboleda, back to its former glory. But to do this, he has to get the house back and in order to get his home back he has to find a woman. One woman specifically and he thinks he may have finally found her in Miss Lucinda Seton. But to get close to her, he is going to have to use some subterfuge.

Lucy Seton is aghast when magician Diego Montalvo moves into the estate neighboring Mrs. Harris’s finishing school. Lucy knows it could mean the ruin of the school and she will not let that happen. After a recent heartbreak, Lucy needs a cause to focus on and she will make sure that Diego cannot go through with his plans to turn the estate next door into a pleasure garden. But as Lucy does her best to stop Diego, she also grows closer to him. His fiery personality attracts her like a moth to flame and she cannot help but yearn for him. But little does Lucy know about Diego’s true plans for her and his true reasons for being in England. Diego has a big secret and it is going to change Lucy’s life forever.

DON’T BARGAIN WITH THE DEVIL is the newest book in Sabrina Jeffries’ The School for Heiresses series. It is filled with the passion and sensuality of her previous stories. Lucy is a stalwart and determined young woman who will protect the school that has been her home for so long. She has good intentions even if her passions tend to get the best of her at times. I really admired her character and felt bad when she learned Diego’s secret. It was truly a life changer and while Lucy is strong enough to deal with it, it definitely caused her pain.

Diego is sexy and the attraction Lucy feels for him scares her in some ways. She is trying to control the more ardent side of her nature. Diego made a few mistakes through the course of the book but by story’s end, I did feel he loved Lucy and that is of course the most important part. He was not afraid to finally declare himself.

DON’T BARGAIN WITH THE DEVIL is a fun and sultry story. It has definitely whetted my appetite for Charlotte’s story! Diego and Lucy make an imperfect but loving pair.
