Arieh Sef’ ea leads an ordinary and secluded life. He is a Riinean and his family is poor but they are also good, god-fearing people. He is mostly content working on his family’s farm. He is a few months away from starting his apprenticeship and making his way in the world until all his plans come to an end in one terrible moment. Arieh is stunned when he is sold into slavery because his father cannot afford to pay his taxes.

Kentari Enitan Viden hates working at the slave market. He and the soldiers under his command provide security for the slavers and their patrons. His job consists mostly of standing around in the hot sun and breaking up the occasional fight. It isn’t a difficult assignment; however, to be faced with so much human suffering is not a pleasant experience.

Enitan has resigned himself to living his life alone as the casual affairs of his past are no longer enough to satisfy him but he doesn’t think he will ever find the man meant for him—until he sees Arieh. He is instantly smitten with the beautiful slave and he is determined to have him.

EVERY GOOD THING by M. Jules Aedin is an intriguing fantasy story with a lot of depth. This novel also has a surprising and captivating historical feel. I don’t want to give too much away but there are parallels between the world created by the author and our own ancient history. I found the similarities and differences very absorbing.

I felt that Arieh and Enitan are very likable characters and I sympathized with both of them. Arieh lost his family and his freedom all at once. He was then expected to accept a situation that went against all his religious beliefs. I admired the fact that after his initial shock he is able to think for himself and become more open minded. Enitan is a very strong and honorable person. He is so kind and accepting of Arieh I found myself hoping that their love would flourish quickly. I also really enjoyed several of the secondary characters. I was particularly intrigued by Ashar and his apprentice, Suqua. I really want to know more about them and how their relationship will progress. I hope there will be a sequel.
