Josephine “Josie” Carlisle, the adopted daughter of a baron, is on her fifth Season and considers herself on the shelf. However, her failure to gain a husband is not due to anything she has done, but to the fact that she is adopted. However, she enjoys her freedom so she has no problem with being unwed. Besides this gives her time for some of her other activities, like making sure that the children at the orphanage have all they need.
Her parents are the host and hostess of the house party and when Thomas and Josie meet, there is an instant attraction. But Josie has secrets and to keep Thomas from furrowing them out, she avoids him whenever possible. However, they still end up in each other's company, even if Thomas has to resort to "kidnapping" her to get some time alone with her. But will their secrets end any chance at a happy-ever-after for them as a couple?
HOW I MARRIED A MARQUESS, the third book in author Anna Harrington's debut THE SECRET LIFE OF SCOUNDRELS series, is an enticing, fun, yet passionate, tale that fans of historical romance are sure to enjoy. The chemistry between Thomas and Josie is immediate and scorching hot. Thomas has been suffering from PTSD since the shooting, but being around Josie seems to soothe him, giving him an ease that no one else has been able to do. Thomas' latest problem may be keeping the woman he loves out of jail.
Both characters are stubborn, but they are also vulnerable due to events in their pasts. However, this allows many readers to empathize with them. Josie also has three delightful older brothers who are very protective of her. They manage to make Thomas feel very uneasy whenever he is around them. I would love to see stories about the brothers. Each of these stories can be read as a standalone, but if you enjoy HOW I MARRIED A MARQUESS, I suggest that you also pick up the first two books in this series, DUKES ARE FOREVER and ALONG CAME A ROGUE. Humor, heat and a hint of mystery abound in this delightful tale that lovers of historical romance are sure to enjoy!
