Kenna McKay had been accepting of her handsome new husband, until she witnessed him in bed with another woman on their wedding day. No longer able to return to her own clan, Kenna runs to a priory full of nuns where she continues learning the art of healing. Since arriving at the priory, she has received a letter from her husband, but she was so furious at him, she destroyed the message without reading it. When Kenna's cousin, Emily, is subsequently kidnapped due to her father's theft of a ship, the kidnappers are unsure if they have the right girl so they take Kenna along too. Arriving at their destination, Kenna comes face-to-face with her husband and a battle of wits soon ensues.
As Alexander and Kenna are forced to be together, their passions ignite and their love for each other provides them with a chance to start anew, but Kenna has a secret. Alexander has noticed her extraordinary healing abilities, but what he doesn't know is that her own talent is enhanced by the healing stone Kenna wears on a necklace. Kenna's mother was also a healer and she left this stone behind as a wedding gift after her death. Kenna has kept this secret from everyone, afraid to confide in anyone. The stone is actually a piece of a larger tablet. There is terrible danger involved if the four pieces of the tablet are ever brought together, so the sections, each bearing a different power, were separated and taken to various parts of the world. But someone evil has already started collecting the pieces and he has discovered that Kenna possesses one of them. Unfortunately, the only way he can obtain the stone's powers is by Kenna's death. Will Alexander be able to protect the woman he loves, or will they lose their newfound happiness before it really has a chance to begin?
Absolutely riveting, MUCH ADO ABOUT HIGHLANDERS, the first book in author May McGoldrick's THE SCOTTISH RELIC series, is an intriguing, sexy historical romance that will captivate readers. I enjoyed reading about this couple and the chemistry between them was undeniable. There is also a secondary romance between Kenna's cousin, Emily, and James, one of Alexander's brothers. Throw in danger, a murderous villain, a bit of the paranormal as well as some humor and you have a story that will stay in your memory long after the book is closed.
This husband and wife writing team who go by the name May McGoldrick are new-to-me authors and I was completely enthralled by their story. I can't wait to read about the other sections of the tablet and those who own them. There is no cliffhanger at the end of this story. This story is complete in itself and can be read as a standalone. Still, I was left hungering to read more about these fascinating characters and the missing pieces of the tablet. The next installment, TAMING THE HIGHLANDER, is due to release in September 2016. With the mystery, the backdrop of Scotland, the historical time period, romance and the paranormal aspects, MUCH ADO ABOUT HIGHLANDERS is sure to intrigue readers of various genres!
