In Regency England, a noblewoman’s role in life is very simple: get married, provide your husband with an heir, and look the other way when he conducts his affairs. But what happens when one woman dares to break the rules?
Lady Penelope Jamison has always done her duty. She married the man she was supposed to, and put up with eighteen years of marital “bliss.” But she is finally fed up with her abusive husband, and tired of the affairs and his indiscriminate spending. After one particularly bad night, she finds solace in the arms of her handsome coachman. But will once be enough? Claxton McWilliams had been Lady Penelope’s coachman for three years. In that time, he had tried to ignore the way her husband treated her. But when Penelope came to him one night, he ended up giving her what she needed. But what will happen when Penelope discovers that Claxton has a fascination for the new coachman Aiden? Will the three of them be able to form a relationship? A scheming pair of in-laws, an entertaining cast of secondary characters, and a surprise twist ending makes GENTLEMEN OF DISTINCTION: PENELOPE’S AWAKENING a very good read. The love scenes between the three main characters were scorching, and you could almost feel the emotions between them. Penelope especially had an excellent change in her personality. She went from passively taking whatever life dealt her to seizing her own destiny and making a place for herself. Claxton was a very hot character, especially if you love alpha men. Aiden was a good foil for both of them, and made their relationship that much richer. The setting was also very well done, and reasonably accurate in its detail. All in all, this was a very entertaining story! © Copyright 2003 by RomanceJunkies.com |
