While working as a stewardess, Mindy Menlove met Hunter MacNeil.  She had been engaged to him when he died by choking on a fish bone.  At the time, he had been having an intimate dinner with a Las Vegas showgirl.  As she later found out, he had no plans to marry and he was only using Mindy to meet the requirements of his late parents’ will.  He would lose everything if he did not change his ways, and marry a decent girl.  However, he had left her his family’s displaced Scottish castle, known as MacNeil’s Folly, and a tidy sum of money. Instead of being in Scotland where it belonged, the castle had been moved to Pennsylvania.  However, Mindy’s dream is to live in Hawaii and she figures that if she can sell the castle, she will have enough money to buy a place to live in Hawaii.  Then she can return to her career with the airlines.  The ancestral portraits of the past chieftains spooked Mindy.  Many of them were scowling, but the one picture that drew her was the painting of Bran of Barra with his twinkling blue eyes.  He made her feel safe.

Bran of Barra is a ghost, though he had been a chieftain in his day.  He still keeps his castle in tiptop shape, although it is a spiritual castle in another dimension.  Living in this castle, he is perfectly happy.  Spirits from all over the Highlands come to visit and party in his castle and, therefore, he has not taken the time to go out of his realm to check the real castle.  He had no wish to dally in a world where he did not belong, and he is tired of losing friends.  Lately, though he has been filled with tension, a prickling sense of foreboding, which would drive him out to the battlements, where he could find some relief in the crashing waves and roaring winds.  He knew that some American women found the men of his generation more appealing than the modern day Scottish men.  He was determined not to have any of those American women there, especially the Scotophiles.

Mindy was determined to sell the castle and move to Hawaii despite the objections her sister Margo made.  Margo told her she could not sell it because it was haunted.  She had all kinds of ways they could use the castle to make money, but Mindy was not interested.  She just wanted to sell the castle and go on with her plans.  However, Mindy was shocked when the portraits came to life.  Right there in her hall were the ghosts of the chieftains in the portraits.  The only one missing was Bran of Barra.  The ghosts are furious and want her to move the castle back to Scotland where it belongs.  They warn her that if she does not do as they ask; they will follow her and haunt her for the rest of her life.  Therefore, she has no choice but to have the castle taken apart and moved to Scotland, which will probably take all the money she had inherited.  As the castle is being restored, she finds that she is falling in love with Scotland and Bran, who watches her with heat in his eyes.  But can she have a future with a ghost?

SOME LIKE IT KILTED is a delightfully sexy and humorous paranormal romance. Though Bran wanted nothing to do with American women, especially Scotophiles, when he saw Mindy, he wanted her.  Mindy wanted nothing to do with Scotland; she could not wait to sell the castle and move to Hawaii…that is, until she joined Bran in Scotland.  Though she desired him, she did not see how they could have a relationship.  Brimming with humor, Scottish charm, an imaginative plot, well drawn, amusing characters, magic, authentic dialogue, steamy love scenes and plenty of ghosts, this story is a delight.  For anyone looking for a great escape from her daily cares, this book is for you, as author Allie MacKay takes you on a romp through Scotland, seamlessly blending past and present.  I highly recommend SOME LIKE IT KILTED for anyone looking for a terrific read.
