Interview

Hi Jade, and welcome to RomanceJunkies.   To begin, will you please tell us about your current projects?

At the moment we are editing a new full-length release for Phaze tentatively slated for 2008. We have several things coming up in the near future. The sequel to MORNINGSTAR, SANCTUARY, is coming out May 21, 2007, and the two releases will be combined for our first full-length paperback with Phaze this summer. In addition, we've just released Tangled Web, and a Phaze heatsheet for the Fury line entitled Escape. We have a little contest going on for Escape which will be posted on www.jadefalconer.com . Another Phaze heatsheet for the Force line, Savior, will be out 7/9/07.

What does your writing space look like? How do you fit writing into your schedule?

We tend to write in transit, so there's no actual writing space. It's wherever we are at any given time. We try not to write while physically driving, but in traffic, at stop lights.... A lot of writing is done on laptops and mobile devices.

How long does it take you to write a book? Do you write one book at a time or do you have a few going at once?

All of the above. We have written a full length book in as little as three weeks, and as long as six months, depending on how it's going. Most of the time there's more than one project in the works at a time, but sometimes it's only one at a time.

Has your environment/upbringing colored your writing at all? Have you ever written about life's experiences?

We tend to set a lot of fiction in places we have lived or visited. I think to some extent everything is based on life experiences. Well, except the gay male sex. The emotional content is always drawn, in some part, from personal experience.

Do you do any research for your books? What is the most interesting thing you have learned ?

We do what research is necessary, but most of the time we find writing from our own life experience and talents is more compelling, and thus requires less research.

Have you seen changes in your writing since you began writing? How about in the writing industry? What do you feel are the best changes that have happened?

There have definitely been changes. When we started writing it was purely for our own amusement. A little constructive criticism in reviews and from the excellent editors at Phaze has really made us pay greater attention to things we needed to tighten up.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book? Who were the first people that you told?

I'd like to say we did something exciting, but mostly we just squealed a lot. Due to the nature of what we write, we've been a little circumspect about telling everyone we know (like employers), but still, most people at least know we've been published. Luckily, since there's two of us, there's always at least one person to understand how exciting it is!

Do you name your characters first or do they have to have a personality before they are named? How do you choose their names How does your family feel about your writing? Have they read your books?

The names actually come last. We start with faces and build from there. I hate choosing names.

No one in our families has read our books. We have elderly mothers, and it's just better that way. However, we have gotten support.

What kinds of hobbies do you have? Is there anything you would love to learn but just haven't had the chance to yet?

We spend an inordinate amount of time going to rock concerts. There's a few bands that we try to see as often as possible, and several of them have been extremely inspirational.

I, personally, think learning comes through experience, and there's an entire world of experiences I look forward to.

What kinds of books do you read? What is the last book you read that left a big impression on you?

We run the gamut from classics to romance to sci-fi. Lately, though, we've spent most of that valuable reading time writing instead.

MORE FUN…

What are your favorite TV programs? Do you have any that you can't miss every week?

I watch HEROES, LOST, GREY’S ANATOMY, and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES pretty regularly, while my better half does not.

What are three words you would say describes you? Are they the same as family and friends would use?

Independent, stubborn, daydreamer. I think that's probably about right.

What is your favorite way to vacation, camping, a cruise or spending a lazy week at a hotel?

A hotel, definitely, preferably in a city with shopping and things to see and do.

What do you look most forward to with the warm weather coming? What is your favorite season?

I look forward to half-day Fridays at work! My favorite season is probably autumn.

Thank you, Jade, for spending time with us at RomanceJunkies.   Best of luck with your writing career in the future.
