What is the best way to spend a quiet evening at home?

Sitting with the family, enjoying a movie in a clean house with no dishes in the sink.

Interview

Hi Sara and welcome. I am so glad you could join us here at RomanceJunkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current projects?

Hi there! Thank you so much for having me here at RomanceJunkies. I am very excited to have my very first series out with Devine Destinies Publishing. BOOK 1: THE AMOVEO LEGACY was just released May 15th and BOOK 2: AN AMOVEO HEART should be out later this summer. This is a paranormal romance series about a secret society of shape shifters.  I am also developing a Vampire series but I'm keeping that one under wraps...for now.

What do you like best, and least, about writing?

The best part about writing is meeting the characters. I know that probably sounds funny. Meet the characters? Huh? The truth is that when I'm writing they really do reveal themselves to me along the way. It's great fun to get lost inside another world for a while.

The worst part--or the hardest part-- is finding the time to write. I work full time, have 4 sons and a hubby so finding the time is a challenge, especially now that promotion is in full swing.

Do you edit as you go, or wait until the first draft is completed, and then have a massive editing session?

A little bit of everything I think. There are some days where the muse is fierce, I'm writing furiously and editing takes place later on in one big session. Then there are other times when I just can't seem to get a groove on and I am constantly going back and editing what I just wrote.

It’s a dream come true when a writer makes their first sale. What were you doing when you found out about yours? Did you do anything special to celebrate?

I was at home doing the dishes! LOL! I did the happy dance in my kitchen. I called everyone in the free world and drank a great glass of wine that night...or two.

What was the best piece of writing advice you've received?

Never stop writing. Always do a little bit every day to keep your ideas fresh and the muse alert.

If you could be beamed up to any planet for a day, which one would you choose to explore, and why?

Oooohhh, what a great question! Well since I am a total Star Trek dork, I am going to go with Vulcan. I don't know about you but there is something so tempting about those Vulcans with all their repressed emotions. Don't you just want to shake things up around there?

What kind of vehicle carries Sara Taney Humphreys to the grocery store and back?

Well, I recently caved and bought my first mini-van. Sigh. It's a Chrysler Town and Country with all the bells and whistles...but it's still a mini-van. I've got 4 boys and really it's the only option at this point. You know what the saddest part is? I love it.  The other day I caught myself rocking out to my '80s tunes at a stop light in my mini-van...I was a cliche on wheels. It made me laugh out loud.

What kind of vehicle would Sara Taney Humphreys like to have to carry her to the grocery store and back?

A red Alfa Romeo Spider convertible. One word for that...HOT.

If you had one day completely free of obligations, how would you most like to spend it?

Writing...writing...writing.

How did you and your husband meet?  Was it love-at-first-site, or did he have to convince you a bit?

Well the first time I met him I thought he was a big jerk. It was my junior year of college and I was sitting with my girlfriend waiting for her boyfriend to come downstairs. This guy on a neighboring couch was watching CNN and started making some very conservative comments (I was raised by hippies/liberals). I turned to my friend and asked who this jerk was and she waved her hand and said, "Oh that's just Will".  I merely shook my head at his right wing rhetoric.

Then the second time was about three weeks later. I was sitting in the bar across the street from campus. (For the record I was sober at this point of the evening) Suddenly, I look up and there he is. He raised his arms and he had a glass of beer in one hand, a full pitcher in the other and gave me the biggest smile I had ever seen.

Now...I know...I should've thought...There's that jerk. But I didn't. I smiled back and thought...Hey, there's that guy, Will.  The rest is history. That was about 18 years ago and we'll be married 15 years in September. Politics is off limits.

How do you describe Sara Taney Humphreys? How does Sara Taney Humphrey’s husband describe her?

Mother. Wife. Daughter. Loving. Tenacious. Mult-tasker. Writer. Go-getter.

I asked my husband to pick eight words to describe me and here's what he chose:  Kind. Generous. Beautiful. Loving. Tenacious. Unrelenting. Compassionate. Liberal.

MORE FUN…

Who is the person who has had the biggest influence on your life?  Whom will you pass this “influence” on to?

My parents. They are truly the most incredible people I know. They have been such supportive, loving, nurturing parents and gave my siblings and me a solid stable life. I will be eternally grateful for all they have done for me. I hope I am doing the same for my children so that they, in turn, can do it for theirs as well.

What is the one modern convenience that you cannot do without?

Okay that's a tough one. I'm going with the computer/internet. However, without electricity we wouldn't have it...so maybe I should say electricity. Hmmm....perhaps indecisive should've been one of my descriptions.

When you're at home relaxing, are you a fuzzy slipper or bare-feet kind of person?

In winter I'm all about the fuzzy slippers. In summer it's bare feet but that's probably because I've had a pedicure.

What was the first concert you ever attended?  Which one was your favorite?

First concert I ever attended was Liza Minelli and Joel Gray when I was about 10 years old. My favorite concert was Duran Duran at Madison Square Garden in 1985. Awesome!!!! I remember being so blown away that my Mom was dancing on the seats with us. I couldn't believe she did it...you know, she was a MOM.  Well, looking back it cracks me up because at that point, she was two years younger than I am now. I still shake my head at my 15-year old self. I thought anyone over 25 was old. I'm going to be 40 this year and I sure don't feel old yet. I feel like I'm just hitting my stride.

And lastly, no interview of a writer would be complete without this question:  what is your favorite comfort food?

My Mom's homemade tuna casserole. It is the best.

There is something so comforting about tuna casserole…one of my favorites as well!  Thank you, Sara, for spending time with us.  And the very best of continued luck with your writing.
