Xeras was once a nobleman who had wealth and privilege and most importantly, he was loved. He had everything a man could want, until his lover Drin was killed for the crime of being in love with Xeras. Love between a noble and a commoner is forbidden. Devastated by the death of his lover and his father’s treachery, Xeras becomes exiled and alone he wanders aimlessly. A dragon he meets changes the course of his life forever.    

Carly, the Ballot Duke of Ballot Keep, is the leader of his people. He is surprised to see a half-drowned man standing boldly, if wearily, in front of his carriage. When the stranger refuses to step aside, Carly is impressed by more than just his audacity. He offers the man a ride, and he feels an intense attraction and is determined to get to know the man better.

Carly soon realizes there is much more to Xeras than meets the eye. He is intrigued and concerned by Xeras’ apparently erratic behavior towards the dragons. Xeras is not looking for a relationship, as he is still dealing with the loss of Drin. Drin’s spirit haunts him still. However, he cannot deny his growing attraction to Carly. Life has other plans for Xeras and he is swept along by events and he is not sure he can fulfill the role fate has laid out for him as the father of a dragon.

FATHER OF DRAGONS by Emily Veinglory is one of the best fantasy novels I have ever read. Ms. Veinglory has created a lush and captivating world. The plot flows very well. I really liked the way the author used magical and paranormal elements to enhance the plot. This story is alternately heart-wrenching, thrilling and amusing. Xeras is an extremely interesting and unique character. I really enjoyed the way that Xeras’ character developed as he slowly realized his life had meaning. Xeras and Carly are well matched. I found myself rooting for their relationship. This novel is romantic and the sexual tension between the main characters is electric. I couldn't wait for them to admit their feelings for one another. The ending was a surprise that left me wanting more. I fell in love with this world and its characters and I hope there will be a sequel. I highly recommend this book!
