While trying to collect herself before the four o’clock meeting with Dan at her favorite deli, she happens to spot the arch enemy himself strolling in her direction. Dan is so preoccupied with talking on his headset that he carelessly walks out into traffic. Shock and guilt has Maggie taking on the role to be the one to go check on him in the hospital. To her surprise, Maggie finds herself starting to look at Dan Constantine in a whole new light. He might not have been the villain she thought after all.
Hoodoo Cupid is a fun read that pulls in an interesting combination of Valentine’s Day, hoodoo, and business. Jean Marie Ward does a nice job of character depiction. I could feel Maggie’s distress and sympathized with both her situation and actions. Ms. Ward’s take on Constantine was one of the things I liked best about the story. Instead of slaying demons, this Constantine was out for wrong doers in the corporate world within his ad agency. I look forward to reading more of Jean Marie Ward’s work.
