Ryne is a powerful Gineal troubleshooter. She is sworn to protect the innocent people of the world from being harmed by magic.   The Gineal are a magical race living among the human population.   For nearly six years, Ryne has been chasing her former mentor, Anise, after she began practicing dark magic in violation of all Gineal rules.

Deke Summers is a private investigator. Anise cast a dark spell over him turning him into a cartoon character.   Ryne has temporarily lifted the spell from him. He has no memory of Anise or the reason why she cursed him.   Ryne is positive that Deke is the key to defeating Anise, if they can just figure out what he knows.

Ryne has always sworn that she will never get involved with a human. Deke is sexy, charming, brave and utterly irresistible which causes her to rethink her oath. As Ryne and Deke are pulled further into Anise's evil machinations, it becomes harder and harder for Ryne to resist Deke's allure.

Dark magic has its own attraction to Gineal troubleshooters.   Ryne must risk succumbing to the darkness in order to defeat Anise and lift Deke's curse permanently.   Will she be able to walk the tightrope between light and dark magic without falling into the darkness and becoming like Anise?   When faced with a sacrifice too terrible to contemplate, what decision will this couple make?

IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR is an imaginative romance set in a world of enchantment and mystery.   The threads of intrigue interwoven with the developing relationship between Deke and Ryne kept me on the edge of my seat.   I absolutely adore Deke.   He is a fun, intelligent, gentle, sexy and an all-around good man.   He knows exactly what buttons to push to get a rise out of Ryne and delights in baiting her.   Ryne meets Deke head-on and doesn't give an inch in their entertaining exchanges.   These two characters compliment one another in temperament and talent and they make an amazing couple.   They became so real to me that not only did I laugh with them, I cried with them. Additionally, I love the way Patti O'Shea has compared the world of the Gineal to our world except with magic.   O'Shea has created a universe filled with possibilities and I hope she has plans to revisit the Gineal for future adventures.   IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR is certainly a book you will not be able to put down until you have read the final word.
