Kari’s relatively new to the Seattle area and she knows very few people. The only obstacle to abducting her from the hospital is her brother Jack. Andreas's bodyguard Laurent uses his connections to ensure that Jack returns to his job in Boston which makes sneaking her from the hospital to their compound infinitely easier -especially since her doctor is a werewolf.
Kari is beyond pissed that she’s been kidnaped from the hospital and to top it off the people who abducted her are obviously on drugs because they claim that they’re werewolves. It’s not until she witnesses one of the pack members, Skye, transform that she finally has to admit that there is some truth to what she’s being told. Kari soon realizes that Andreas is everything she could want in a man but any chance of a happily-ever-after is threatened by jealous pack members and attempts on Kari’s life. Most of the pack loves and supports Kari and Andreas mating so who wants her dead and why?
Lauren Dane never fails to thrill me with each new story she has published and ASCENSION is no exception. This book introduces readers to the Cherchez Clan which is full of characters readers are going to fall in love with - and a few you’ll love to hate. Kari and Andreas make an awesome couple. He may be Alpha but so is she and she isn’t afraid to stand up to him - or any of the rest of the pack. I had to smile at Kari's ballsy confrontations with anyone who attempts to challenge or undermine her, there's just something about her attitude that had me wanting to high five her and say 'you go girl!' I loved the close ‘family unit’ that is so obvious throughout this storyline and how each of the clan shows such affection for one another is really very sexy - even when it isn't meant to be. There’s no doubt that Kari fits right in, but there’s just the little issue of someone trying to kill her.
There were many characters in ASCENSION that I simply adored so I’m thrilled that there will be another chance to revisit them very soon in the upcoming book FIRE AND RAIN which is due out September 5, 2007.
