Though Micah doesn’t want to rule Maelgwn, he has no choice since the disappearance of his brother. Now, Micah must deal with forces trying to make war against his country, advisors he can’t trust, and a mate that doesn’t trust him. To keep his kingdom alive and well, Micah decides to confront his reluctant mate and convince her of his loyalty, hoping to gain Elizabeth’s trust in return.
With fantasy not being my genre of choice, I was initially unsure about reading Overlord’s Vessel. Within the first four pages of this book, my fears were cast aside and I settled in for an extremely good read. Afoot between the pages were nefarious bad guys, dishonest advisors, naughty nymphs, and virile palace guardians. Then there were the two main characters. For all of his bluster, Micah was completely in love with Elizabeth. His loyalty to her was heartwarming. Elizabeth held on to her distrust a bit longer than I expected since I, as a reader, felt his honesty was apparent. Her fear of being discovered with powers kept me rooted to my chair and I wanted the bad guys to be punished. I was introduced to a palace guardian, Asher, that I can’t stop thinking about; I can only hope he will get his own story.
Overlord’s Vessel shouldn’t be missed and I plan to read it again in the near future!
